As the Washington Post releases a series of articles on the clandestine operations of the Office of the Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, and his extra-constitutional abuse of power in the supposed name of "national security" , I can only hope this is the final straw that will get Congress and the American people to wake up and see what is happening to our precious country under this tyrant.
As much as I have major issues with George W. Bush, it is becoming more and more clear that the real power behind the throne, the real madman, is the Vice President of the United States - clearly the most dangerous man in the country.
It was this man who wants to abrogate the US Constitution - who wants to assert the unitary executive - the executive who has no restraints on him "in a time of war and national emergency". Intelligent people know the faux crises created as a result of 9/11.
Yes, 9/11 was horrible and yes we need to prevent another 9/11. But no national emergency justifies the shredding of the US Constitution. Adolph Hitler shredded the German Constitution in the early 1930s when that country had serious problems and went on to claim absolute power. All tyrants throughout history have generally used the same method - whipping up fear in people, both fear of people wanting to be protected and fear of people being punished for opposing the government.
Mr. Cheney may or may not have good intentions. He would not be the first tyrant to have good intentions. Hitler positively transformed the German economy and state and made it a leading power again. For non-Jews, non-gays, not-defects, 1930s Germany was a great time to be a German.
Those who reflexively support the Bush/Cheney regime will take issue with me bringing up Hitler's name. How dare I! Don't I know we are in a national emergency against a ruthless enemy?
Well yeah, I do. We are in a national emergency, a constitutional emergency that could result in the permanent loss of precious American freedom and liberty in order to have the mirage of personal security. Is the enemy ruthless? Yeah, Richard Cheney does not give a damn about what Americans or anyone thinks - he is ruthless. He even says "fuck you" to his own President regarding an executive order with the National Archives.
If the Congress and American people allow a man like Richard Cheney to get away with this extreme and I do mean extreme abuse of power, then they will be complicit in that abuse and will suffer the loss of their constitutional rights and freedoms.
We cannot allow this!!!!
I urge, from the bottom of my heart and soul, that all Americans unite and demand the Congress impeach and remove from office Richard B. Cheney as Vice President of the United States.
