Liberals have been calling for the impeachment and removal from office of the President and Vice President since at least 2004. But they were considered the fringe, the wackos, the "Bush-haters".

Bush managed to get "re-elected" in 2004 and seemed to be riding high through early 2005. Then came Katrina, and the slide downward began, the invincibility was tarnished. The aura of the President was demolished when the people finally reminded the President who was really the boss in November 2006.

Yet this President and his delusional Vice President continue to govern as though he had just been re-elected and can do whatever the hell he wants - that he can still thumb his nose at the people's representatives, the Congress - an EQUAL branch of government.

The eggs are starting to crack and humpty dumpy may be ready to fall off the wall.

As much as I have despised the President and his arrogance, I have been very skeptical of any impeachment talk and Nancy Pelosi was wise to take "impeachment talk off the table" last November.

But just as the people's will is beginning to give Congress, including some Republicans, the courage to confront the President on Iraq, the people may soon DEMAND the impeachment and removal from office of President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney.

As with Watergate, it takes time and events to build up a political momentum to force the President's party to abandon one of their own and that is what would be needed - 17 Republican Senators and all 50 Democratic Senators (not counting quasi-Republican Joe Lieberman) to convict.

As with the impeachment of Bill Clinton, impeachment by the House (which requires a simple majority) does not remove a person from office. The person impeached must also be convicted by the Senate and that requires a 2/3s majority - a tall order. But that tall order ensures this political action (impeachment is a political, not judicial action) has overwhelming support.

As for me, I am now on the impeachment bandwagon and I now believe it is quite possible the President and Vice President could be impeached and removed from office. And if that occurs due to the President and Vice President's extra-constitutional lawlessness, I am totally in favor of prosecution and legal punishment as the crimes merit.

Those in power need to be reminded we live in a democracy which is governed under the rule of law and protected by the Bill of Rights and no one, no one has the right to abrogate this and disregard it.
